Omflow enables organisations to integrate a requirements-led, multilingual approach into their everyday workflow. Helping businesses to make the changes and commitments they need to successfully build capability is at the heart of what we do. We understand that improvement often requires change and we know how to ensure that people embrace it.

Working with our clients' own staff and our responsive network of skilled engineers and translators, we have the knowledge, experience, and flexibility needed to structure an effective package of training and resources. We believe in developing long-term relationships of loyalty and trust and will be on-hand to help our partners continue improving whenever we are needed.

Our Skills

Omflow's founder and Managing Director, Stephen Powley, is an innovative engineer and an experienced translator. His skills include systems engineering consultancy, business process improvement, software development, German to English translation, and technical writing. Omflow's greatest strength - our ability to ensure that multiple language capability is built into engineered systems right from the start - is derived from the vision and commitment to quality that has served him throughout his career.

Having spent two years travelling the globe and 25 years visiting Germany as a student, engineer and translator, he has an excellent understanding of what it takes to work well in multiple languages and cultures.

More recently, Omflow has applied its experience and expertise to help one of China's "Big 4" automakers build a robust, scalable requirements engineering capability. The key to our success was taking proven Western practices and imbuing them with Chinese characteristics. Multilingual workflows are more vital than ever when dealing with requirements written in scripts that partners cannot read. We recognise the importance of China in world commerce and advise our clients on how to adopt practices that transform barriers into bridges.

Our Team

The resources required to create a requirements-led initiative can be varied - from a translator of a specific language to a specialist in a particular field of engineering. Because it would be impractical to house all these resources under one roof, we combine our own experience with that of our trusted partners to build teams that are tailored to each project's needs. By maintaining a core team and enhancing it with people from our network of experts, we can be flexible, responsive, and cost-effective. Omflow's business model is carefully structured to encompass managed growth as partnerships evolve.

What is requirements-led engineering?

REQUIREMENTS describe conditions and capabilities that a system must encompass to solve a problem.

REQUIREMENTS ENGINEERING embodies a set of practices designed to enable the formulation, documentation, and maintenance of requirements.

REQUIREMENTS-LED ENGINEERING is thus an approach that places requirements engineering at the front and centre of the engineering process. Every engineer's goal is to build the right system and to build the system right. Mastery of requirements is the key to achieving this.

Any process can be engineered and, to be well-engineered, processes must be informed by requirements. With its roots in safety-critical industries such as rail and nuclear, requirements-led engineering is widely applicable to a broad range of other process-driven sectors.

The requirements process must engage and coordinate stakeholder groups across an organisation to ensure that the end system meets needs and goals. It must also ensure that systems can be designed, implemented, scaled to accommodate growth, and supported and maintained over time.
